5 hours
 From 10:00 am to 3:00 pm
This course is designed for sea kayakers who want to learn how to play and explore rock gardens and whitewater features of the ocean.

Paddling Skills – Paddling in dynamic water
• Edging and bracing (high and low)
• Forward & Reverse stroke
• Power paddling
• Turning strokes such as bow & cross bow rudder, stern pry, sweep & reverse sweep as well as draw stroke
• Boat handling
• Rescues

• Signals
• Rating system for rock gardening features
• The decision process for a “GO” or a “NO GO”
• Group and paddler's strategic position for a potential rescue
• Understanding wave patterns in rock features
• Plan of action
• Paddler's state of mind – understanding and assessing the MENTAL aspect of rock gardening.

Participants must have
• Enough food and water to keep going through the course
• Immersion gear - A wetsuit or a drysuit or enough layers of clothes not to get cold "in" and "out" of the water.
• Kayak, paddle, spray skirt, pump, and all sea kayak required safety equipment
• Helmet
• Extra warm clothing dry bag
• Tow line
